The Plant of Immortality

Posted on

Aloe vera is the oldest medicinal herbal plant ever known and the most used medicinal plant worldwide, rightly earning its position as “the plant of immortality” with its medicinal use dating back thousands of years and its proven history of safety in biomedical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

The fresh leaves of aloe vera secrete a colourless mucilaginous gel that contains 98-99% water and 1-2% active compounds that have demonstrated effective antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-modulatory effects to promote both tissue regeneration and cellular rejuvenation of skin.

Aloe vera has a unique profile of biologically active and naturally occurring compounds that include polysaccharides, anthroquinones, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and proteins. This nutritional diversity of this plant makes it an effective and powerful additional to natural skincare formulations

Oil in water emulsions such as moisturisers can contain as much as 90% of water and make up the majority of skincare products on the market. A quick label glance will list water, aqua or purified water as the initial ingredient in mainstream cosmetics.

With the exception of forming the oil/water emulsion component of a moisturiser or serum, water is essentially chemically inert adding little value to the formulation. The water component of our formulations utilise between 0.25% and 0.50% of concentrated certified organic aloe vera leaf extract.

This concentration has a number of skin benefits including acting as a humectant to modify trans-epidermal water loss, amplifying the hydration in skin. With its ability to penetrate four times greater than water it also assists the penetration of active ingredients through the skin to support maximum tissue regeneration and age-defiance.
