Common Questions About Luminosity
Real answers to the questions we're asked most about this formula — if yours isn't here, Cassandra's happy to help directly.
What makes Luminosity different from Elemental Vitamin A+C+E Serum?
Luminosity is vitamin C-led, using tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THD Ascorbate) as the hero ingredient for brightening and hydration. Elemental combines vitamin C with a full 1.0% retinol concentration for a broader anti-ageing effect.
How do I use Luminosity Vitamin C Serum?
Apply to clean skin in the morning, before moisturiser and SPF. Can also be used at night if preferred.
Why THD Ascorbate instead of regular vitamin C (ascorbic acid)?
Pure ascorbic acid is notoriously unstable and struggles to penetrate skin's lipid barrier. THD Ascorbate is a lipid-soluble derivative shown in research to penetrate the stratum corneum roughly three times more effectively than ascorbic acid at the same concentration [Herndon et al., 2024].
Can I use this if I have sensitive skin?
Yes — THD Ascorbate doesn't require the low, acidic pH that pure ascorbic acid does, which is often what causes stinging in sensitive skin [Swindell et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2021].
Is it safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Vitamin C is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Confirm with your doctor if you have specific concerns.
How long until I see brightening results?
Most people notice improved radiance within 2–3 weeks, with more significant tone-evening effects over 6–8 weeks.
Will this help with fine lines, or is it purely for brightness?
Vitamin C plays a role in collagen synthesis, so alongside brightening, research on THD Ascorbate has shown improvement in fine lines and photodamage with consistent use.
Can I layer this with retinol at night?
Yes — Luminosity in the morning and a retinol-based product like Metamorphis or Elemental at night is a well-supported routine structure.
Is it vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes — every Ocinium formula is vegan and cruelty-free, with no animal testing anywhere in the supply chain.
How should I store it?
Keep in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat — vitamin C derivatives degrade faster above 45°C and with prolonged light exposure.
Where does Luminosity fit in my routine if I'm using other Ocinium products?
Luminosity is a AM serum step. Layer it in the morning before moisturiser and SPF, with a retinol-based product like Metamorphis or Elemental at night.
How much should I use, and how long will the 30mL bottle last?
A little goes further than you'd expect — most people find their 30mL bottle lasts 6–10 weeks with regular use. Using more than the guided amount won't improve results and just uses product faster.
What if I don't see results after a few weeks?
Skin cell turnover takes time, so most actives need consistent use over several weeks before results are visible — stopping and restarting resets that clock. If you've used it consistently for the timeframes above and aren't seeing change, book a consultation with Cassandra to check it's the right formula for your specific skin.
Where can I see the full ingredient list and why each one is included?
Every active in every Ocinium formula is documented on our Ingredient Intelligence page, with the evidence behind each one explained in plain terms.
Should I patch test before using this?
If you have reactive, compromised or previously sensitised skin, we'd recommend a 24-hour patch test on your inner forearm before applying to your face. Most people won't need to, but it's a sensible precaution if you're unsure how your skin will respond.
Can I use this alongside dermatologist-prescribed treatments or in-clinic procedures?
Let your dermatologist or treating clinician know what's in your routine, particularly around the timing of any prescription actives or in-clinic procedures like peels or laser — they're best placed to advise on spacing and any specific interactions.
Is Luminosity included in any of your sets?
Yes — it's included in Luminance Collection, Clarity Collection, and Serum Discovery Set.
Can I subscribe and save on Luminosity?
Yes — set it to auto-replenish and save 20% on every recurring order, with the flexibility to skip, pause or cancel any time.
