Vitamins and Actives

Retinol - Vitamin A

This antioxidant, fat soluble vitamin stimulates cell renewal & collagen production making it a key ingredient in anti-ageing skincare. It stimulates the dermis and increases blood flow to the skin, making it effective in reversing the signs of photodamage and improving the appearance of wrinkles and problematic skin.

Niacinamide - Vitamin B3

Niacinamide, the active form of Vitamin B3, is a skin care work horse, and true cellular communicating ingredient, enhancing the skins function and cellular synthesis, for improved collagen structure and firmer skin.

Niacinamide is one of the most effective natural treatments for tissue refinement where it enhances the skin's ability to de-congest and clear acne while also evening out skin tone, for a smooth complexion.

Panthenol - Vitamin B5

This anti-stress (or calming) vitamin assists water absorption within the skin resulting in smooth, youthful complexion. Its hydrating properties allow for deep moisturisation resulting in healthier cells and tissues.

Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate - Vitamin C

Pure Vitamin C is unstable and degrades easily which is why we utilize a stable and highly bioavailable form (80% bioavailability) of Vitamin C. Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate brightens and evens skins tone and exhibits potent antioxidant and fibroblast activity. It contributes to radiant skin by reducing inflammation, hyper-pigmentation, UV protection and repair whilst boosting collagen and elastin production to create a plump, revitalised skin tone and texture.

Tocopherols- Mixed Natural Vitamin E

Containing and active blend of natural mixed tocopherols with naturally occurring d-alpha, d-beta, d-gamma and d-delta tocopherols that are strong anti-oxidants to protect against UV damage and skin ageing. They increase collagen production and protect existing collagen by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase [MMP] an enzyme responsible for degrading collagen. With the ability to inhibit COXII, tocopherols are beneficial in inflammatory skin conditions and to accelerate wound healing. Tocopherol smoothes skin by locking in moisture to prevent transepidermal water-loss and repairs tissue leading to fewer fine lines and a nourished complexion.

Sodium hyaluronate - Hyaluronic acid, fermented, vegan, low molecular weight

Did you know that this water-loving molecule occurs naturally in the extracellular matrix of our skin? Unfortunately, production decreases as we age resulting in dryness and wrinkling but luckily for us we can boost levels through skincare. HA is a humectant (assists skin to cling onto water) and is composed of long chains of non-sulfated glycosaminoglycans. HA has a role in stimulating dermal fibroblast migration and proliferation as well as for increasing tissue hydration. Ocinium Serums contain pure, vegan sourced HA in LMW (low molecular weight) to hydrate and assist the delivery of key actives into the skin, resulting in smoother and supple looking skin and a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

Ubiquinone- Co Enzyme Q10

This powerful antioxidant occurs naturally within our bodies however, production decreases as we age. CoQ10 prevents lipid peroxidation within our skin membranes which can manifest itself as wrinkles and brown age spots. It also protects against harmful free radicals produced from water-insoluble molecules and reduces pigmentation associated with both UV and radiation exposure which contribute to premature ageing. Boosted by the activity of antioxidants Vitamins C and E, you will find this synergistic combination in our Luxe Lip Balm..

Botanical Science

Green tea

The powerful antioxidant properties of this plant Camelia sinensis, namely the catechin polyphenol EGCG, contribute to it suitability in repair of prematurely aged skin and protection of future damage from UV radiation and environmental exposure. This is complemented by enzymatic activity that reduces the degradation of collagen thereby promoting smoother and firmer skin. Green Tea is known for its thermogenic ability, which effectively increases the skins metabolic rate, thus improving the removal of toxins and stimulating renewal. Its ability to reduce inflammation and encourage healing makes it suitable for even the most sensitive of skin types.

White tea

White tea features the youngest, uppermost buds and leaves of the plant Camellia sinsensis, whilst the more mature leaves go on to produce Green Tea. The minimal processing of White tea maintains the integrity of the phytochemicals and polyphenolic flavonoid compounds, referred to as catechins*, in higher concentrations than Green tea. Catechins deliver potent antioxidant activity that is understood to protect against DNA damage caused by free radical formation by reactive oxygen species (ROS) whilst simultaneously boosting levels of defense enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. This activity assists in protecting us against the harmful effects of exposure to environmental toxicity and UV radiation that damages our skin at a molecular level contributing to the formation of lines, wrinkles and decreased skin tone.

*The priniciple catechins found in white tea are: epicatechin (EC), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Ginseng

This ancient herb is renowned for its adaptagenic ability that promotes physiological stabilisation and a reduced cellular sensitivity to stress. Ginseng stimulates blood flow and microcirculation, which encourages an immune response and promotes detoxification of the skin.

The active compounds of Panax quinquefolius are known as Ginsenosides and have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activity which indicate suitability for sensitive and problematic skin. Its superior moisturising and softening ability is attributed to its richness in polysaccharides ensuring nourishment and regeneration of tired, dry and mature skin.

Gotu kola

Centella asiatica has been used widely in cosmeceutical applications due to its dramatic effect on underlying connective tissue supporting its use in anti-ageing cosmetics and wound support and healing. The main active constituents of this plant, asiatic acid, madecassic acid and asiaticoside promote the synthesis of collagen, hydroxyproline (collagen building block), stimulating hyaluronic acid (hydration & structural support) and cell growth factors (remodelling of tissue and wound sites), thus helping to maintain the elasticity, strength and general appearance of skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Calendula

Revered for its incredible ability to soothe the skin and accelerate healing, Calendula officinalis has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, astringent and immune-stimulating properties. Its active constituents, predominantly flavonoids and saponins, protect the skin from extrinsic damage and aid in the metabolism of protein and collagen during the healing process to promote repair whilst preventing further tissue degeneration. Calendula can significantly improve the appearance of the skin by boosting blood flow to skin cells, reducing redness and inflammation and promoting moisture balance for a smooth, healthy complexion.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate seed oil extracted from the ancient super fruit Pomegranate, Punica granatum, which is actually classified as a berry. This fruit delivers a potent dose of Vitamin C and polyphenols promoting powerful antioxidant activity that neutralise the effects of environmental damage and toxicity. The nutritional status is further boosted by the abundance of Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), potassium and omega-5 fatty acids. These plant compounds act synergistically to support collagen, both by promoting its synthesis and inhibiting enzymatic degredation, whilst reducing inflammation, which are vital to the protection and repair of the skin, improving its resilience and elasticity.

Papaya

A tropical fruit rich in the enzyme papain, known for its remarkable ability to dissolve dead skin cells making it a superior exfoliant and skin brightener. This fruit seed oil also contains high concentrations of essential fatty acids and antioxidant rich Vitamins A, C & E which hydrate, protect and repair the skin promoting an even skin tone and texture. Its anti-fungal, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties make it a sought after ingredient in many skin care formulations.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is renowned for its remarkable healing properties attributed to the anti-microbial, immune-stimulating, anti-inflammatory activities. The active constituent Allantoin has been shown to stimulate epithelialization of the skin, accelerating cellular regeneration & wound repair. The ability to reduce prostaglandin synthesis and pro-inflammatory cytokines associated with inflammation, it can be used on even the most sensitive of skin and serves to reduce inflammation, facilitate healing and stimulate immune response. We love this natural ingredient so much that we utilise it in its more pure form in all our range of serums, cream and cleanser.

Chamomile

This floral extraction is widely used in skincare due to its powerful ability to calm and cool the skin to reduce inflammation and irritation. The main constituents of the flowers include phenolic compounds of flavonoids apigenin, quercetin, patuletin, luteolin, and their glucosides that are potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents beneficial in damaged, sensitive or irritated skin. The essential oil of Chamomile contains Chamazulene which works as an anti-oxidant, targeting the formation and proliferation of free radicals caused by lipid peroxidation, thereby preventing further cell membrane damage and reducing inflammation. These compounds combine synergistically to improve the rate at which damaged skin heals.
